About the Event
This presentation will examine the process of writing open specifications for construction contracts aligning with the standards set by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). Attendees will gain insights into developing comprehensive specifications that adhere to the CSI format, follow CSI’s “4 C’s” (Clear/Concise/Correct/Complete), and facilitate competitive bidding. This presentation equips professionals in the construction industry with the knowledge and skills needed to develop open specifications. By the end, attendees will be empowered to create specifications that foster transparency, fair competition, and successful project outcomes.
Learning Objectives
- Explore the foundational principles outlined by CSI, including key components such as MasterFormat and SectionFormat, to structure specifications effectively for streamlined communication and project execution.
- Examine competitive bidding requirements specific to government construction contracts and how fostering fair competition benefits the project Owner.
- Consider the balance between providing detailed specifications and allowing room for “or-equal” products or materials. Discuss the difference between or-equals and substitution requests.
- Analyze strategies for mitigating risks associated with construction projects. Explore how well-crafted specifications can serve as a powerful tool in managing expectations, minimizing disputes, and ensuring project success.
